Your 180 days start from the day your I-94 expired. And yes, 2 weeks or 4 weeks over stay will make a difference. Next time when you enter the country or at the Visa office they might ask you the reason.
You did nit clarify if your partner is a US citizen, PR or visa holder. That might help in giving you some additional advise.

You cannot become a Canadian Citizen, just because you are on H1 in the US. The only advantage is you can apply for Permanent Residency from the US, which is much faster than applying from India. Once, you get your Green Card, you still should maintain residency in Canda, before you apply for Citizenship.

What if I have applied it through NYC Buffalo but by the time they are finished processing (lets say 2 hrs from now), I had to move to India (coz i din't get my GC from here or any other reason). How about an apology from an Indian Prime Minister saying he is sorry that you were born in India and are not able to get greencard.

I agree with rajuram. We are all tax payers. The whole concept of democracy is taxation with representation. People who get paid from my tax dollars are answerable to me as much as they are to anyone else. Even when cis is not forcing me to file gc, its still equally answerable to me for my tax dollars to tell me why they are not doing their jobs properly. And for that cis owes us all apology. What's wrong with that?

You should apply neither Fiance visa (K1) or Tourist visa (B2) I guess that is the best and fastest way as far as I know.

I think u should talk to new lawyer abt retaining application and pursuing on the the one with Co X....even though it was acquired. by Y....as long as ur location did not change. If u had a clause stating that ur Job is relocatable u should even be able to retain Co X;s application even though u moved after teh aqisition

If i apply for H1 Extension and Travel outside US and While returning back if i enter with my Visa which is valid only till Nov 2009 and do not have H1 Extension Approval document in my hand what should i need to do.Do i need to travel outside the country again after getting my H1 Extension approval and before my H1B Visa Expires. What is the solution for this scenario.

You can try hide her in the suitcase u r carrying or get a tourist visa for Canada then get F-1 in Canada as independent then travel in by road ..........

Employer can revoke 140 anytime till 485 is approved.
If you are past 180 days after application of 485 then that would not make your 485 invalid. that is the crux of AC21 portability.

The OP here has found a pattern that builds on that same prediction, and should extend into 2008. If that pattern holds its 6 month jumps initially, then stagnation later by 2nd quarter. Lets see if it does.
Of course if 10K people do show up at the DC rally, then none of this might be needed. If enough senators can be convinced that what we are facing is really a big problem and easily fixable (atleast recapture of 200K visas and exemption of dependents if not a bump up in annual limits) then the dates will be C C all through 2008.
All the east-coasters who saw the effect of the San Jose rally: its your turn now to up the ante and go one step ahead. The results of not showing up for that rally is literally a guarantee that only a tiny percentage of us will get I-485 approvals for the next two years!!! and things might improve even with a new president ONLY if we rally then! think about that!! not doing anything is a guarantee of long long waits...

We need this bill and 350,000 VISAS that come with it. We have to make sure that those VISAs don't need to used 'per country' basis. Those VISAs must be distributed to whoever is in line, no matter which country they belong to.

My wife had recently changed her status from H4 to H1 and had applied her SSN and got it.
So i dont think there's any new rule.

Filing for I-485 is better as after six months, the employers can not do much. Disagree with this post altogether.
