First off congrats on your new purchase!

Yes you can. I am booted from a SATA drive on a PCI card as I type this. For your needs I recommend the 4 channel PCI SATA card FirmTek sells.

Thanks zen.state. Is this the card you mention? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Seritek-Internal-4-Port-PCI-X-SATA-Controller-Mac-/350443061978?pt=AU_Computer_Components_Controller_Cards&hash=item519808c2da#ht_970wt_907

I have the red laser app on my phone for scanning barcodes and it no longer works. I added 3 other scanning apps and they don't work either. Does anyone have a solution? I turned the phone off for a while but that didn't fix the problem.

Apple does allow opt-in, just not opt-out. So the problem lies with the FT.

    Not really.

The terms with FT are that if you want to use their service you must provide them with the information. Then you can choose what you allow them to do with this information.

If Apple does not want to allow FT to work that way they are effectively saying they don't want to do business with FT. And this is why FT is "holding out."

Apple doesn't like the T&C's of FT.
FT does not like the T&C's of Apple.

So they are choosing not to do business with each other. Happens all the time.

Apple users are the only ones that lose here.

Apple should just make .mac adbased and free, to keep up with the competition and to attract a whole crapload of new switchers.

Just to emphasize the AT$T rip-off point, for new connections, check out the linked chart from the telco down under Optus

    http://personal.optus.com.au/web/ocaportal.portal?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=Template_woRHS&FP=/personal/mobile/mobilephones/handset_details&site=personal&mt=handset_details&sort=d3e72a394f6196ccf6addc933bea2cdd213041e9f|24

For the $29/month plan with $18/month subsidized phone cost you're paying a total of $47/month over 24 months (taxes & fees included) for a total of $1128. Gives almost 200 anywhere minutes, texts incl in monthly total, plus free mobile to mobile on same account (for family) and 200mb each month 3G included. Only calls out are charged as part of your minutes, not calls you receive in Australia (so the above could be doubled).

Compared to AT$T, the min monthly payment is $40 for 450 min (call min both in and out going) + $15 for 200mb, plus cost of texts, plus taxes & fees is going to be min $60/month + $199 upfront for the phone = $1640 over 24 months.

With one for one exchange rate currently, that's over $500 diff for like 25 mins more in calls/month.

You could buy an extra phone as backup lol...

I'm not sure you would describe it as "caning" but Android phones comfortably outsold the iPhone last year.

    http://www.gartner.com/it/page.jsp?id=1543014

That's not at all what's at discussion in this thread. We're talking OS penetration, not phones sold. The statement was made that although iOS is comfortably in the lead in the US, that it's behind in the rest of the world. Given the closeness of the phone units sold, I'd be _VERY_ surprised if iOS had a lower penetration than Android.

I have a PS3 I could get doing this if it would even be worth it?

Also just FYI, keep in mind the power consumption.

"The original PS3 model will use about 200 Watts while running Folding@home. A later model PS3 (with a 40 GB hard drive) will use about 115 Watts."

So, either 1 or 2 big light bulbs if you wanna look at it that way.

    Ocular prosthesis/glass eye/artificial eye

They all have the same meaning.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ocular_prosthesis

    Thanks...

Sigh... Another post shot to Hell. I hate when the subtle implied meaning is missed for something far less obvious.

Saying that someone is "seeing through rose-colored glasses" means that they are an optimist, only seeing the good and neglecting to notice the bad. (The opposite type of person, a pessimist, is symbolised by the color grey). (http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_(color))

Glass eye, eye glasses, lens, rose colored, rose colored glasses...

With all rumor-eyes looking toward the next generation iPhone 5, it's not clear how much demand there is for the white iPhone 4 which is now 10 months late from the original launch. So, here's a poll to see who is planning on buying a white iPhone 4.
Unless anyone is willing to pay crazy early termination fees to replace the same model phone they already have (just in a different color), knowing on top of that that it's about to be outdated, who in their right mind would even consider it? Dumb poll.

I don't think that barmann was making a case against a new technology that didn't fit the old ways like when mice were first introduced.

Sounded like it to me. May not have been the gist, but unwittingly, he was making that argument.

His point was that as much as iPad fanboys want it to be the coolist thing ever that will replace all those old-fashioned computers there are differences in machines between consumer ones and those used by professionals.

This is the exact argument made against the mouse and GUI. Exact. Mouse and GUI-based machines were scoffed at by geeks back in the 80s as "toys." That's the same rhetoric I'm hearing now about the iPad and touch-based devices. "It won't do for real work done by professionals." "It's fun but I can't get things done on it." That may be true for some lines of work at this stage, but it's going to change fast so declaring it useless or a plaything at this stage is shortsighted.

And BTW, nobody is saying the iPad will replace computers. Just like the mouse and GUI, this approach is going to continue evolving until ways are found for it to enhance computers and become an essential part of it. But it's insane for people to write off touch-based tablets as fanboy cheerleading

In what way does that pertain to the question at hand?

Well, that depends on which is the question at hand. Are you referring to this question?

How many women have you personally raped because they looked like sluts?

It sure is a jewel of a question.

    I welcome this feature.

People want a layout with usability, not a design that looks just so. Still, both are easy to achieve if your skilled.

I always surf with my text zoomed at least one level which is available on every browser - this messes up more wabpages than it should. Some of my favorite websites have comment textareas with 3-4 lines of text and are as few as 20 characters wide. I always end up writing in Pages and copying into the textarea.

To get that much storage you would need 1,000,000,000,000 Mac Mini Servers which costed at full retail is 70x the US national debt.

Apple's 500,000 sq ft data centre usuing Doctor Q's 10 fot of usuable vertical space could hold 104,088,861 not accounting for heat dissapation cabling storage racks etc. Therefore you would need 9,607 data centres of the size of apple's current (which was rumored to cost $1billion). However that is a storage facility literally filled with no walking space between the racks or anything like that so a sensible suggestion would be to double that.

The total size of this project would be 9,607,000,000 sq ft or 344 sq miles. Turks and Caicos Islands (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turks_and_Caicos_Islands) happens to 366 sq miles, although to allow for expansion, shipping port/airport and power plants and other ancilallry buildings such as worker housing, supermarket and such I would suggest that Hong Kong with an area of 426 sq miles is a good place to start. Although given the high population of Hong Kong it isn't an ideal place to build such a facility, therefore the Faroe Islands with a size of 538 miles might be the first sensible place to wipe out. Alternatively you could just dump it in Texas/Alaska as they have plenty of land spare. Alaska would give you natural cooling which would be a bonus over Texas although can you image the series of Ice Road truckers, "In this haul is 100,000 Mac Minis."

All in all to go for something like large with some as inappropriate as a Mac Mini is a costly and ultimately bonkers idea.

Fingers crossed that the sums are correct.

Good work! I've just double checked your figures and they are accurate (ahem)

I suppose the original question should have been, "What have Apple got in there?"

Maybe Steve Jobs has another hobby going, a new Xserve!
